Unfortunately, the vessel is not young, but it holds up well over the years. Cleanliness was not top-notch, mainly because the previous guests were late with checkout, forcing the owner to clean in a hurry so we could depart and reach Elba by afternoon. The equipment and general condition of the boat are not the best. It is understandable that during those months it can be difficult to keep everything in perfect order. We found ceiling lights held on with tape, clogged drain filters, rain leaking through the hatches, missing deck hatch plugs, and a lack of lights in the cockpit or dead batteries in the flashlights. These are fixable problems, but they wouldn't be present on newer or more expensive vessels. The owner was helpful and professional. It is clearly evident that he has a lot of experience in the sector.

We muddled through...  
Overall the cruise did not go badly but, unfortunately, due to the rough-and-ready management of the vessel some problems were not lacking. The "Marina" is a coast guard berth not always available and with water and electricity to be managed with other vessels. During the first week the lack of cleaning of the black water tank caused the drain to clog and the consequent overflow of sewage into the bilges causing an unbreathable atmosphere throughout the boat. Return to the base meant the problem was resolved allowing us to face the second week in tranquility. Vessel maintenance is, however, rough-and-ready, type "string, tape and zip ties"... the engine, on the other hand, is well maintained

The port of Porto Ercole is not a private marina. The home mooring for my boats is on a mooring buoy, and clients are aware of this. To allow clients to embark and disembark, I use the berth at the harbour master's office (kindly made available). Mr Stefano fails to mention that he paid nothing, whereas at Porto Ercole a berth costs €140.00 per night. He had electricity and water without any problem, always free of charge. As for the black water tank blockage and the resulting inconvenience, that is a long dispute: skipper Stefano claims it was due to a lack of tank cleaning. I maintain that wadded toilet paper was thrown into the toilet. To claim that the blockage was caused by a lack of tank cleaning shows little competence and a poor understanding of how these black water tanks work. These tanks are located between the toilet and the through-hull discharge valve, so there is no direct access. It is the old story: "I always know one more thing than the devil." Arrogance is always directly proportional to ignorance. In any case, my Bavaria 40 is an excellent boat and is in demand all year round from dozens of guests. Thank you.

Owner Tonino a great person, always available both at check-in and during the voyage. Although dated, the boat still has interiors in good condition. Sadly the downsides concern equipment: the sails are rags, instrumentation practically non-existent or poorly working. Not suitable for those who want to sail!
