It should be noted that, as forecast by the weather for the entire weekend, there was no wind and, as the client admitted, the sails were not even used.
That said, I asked about the sailing itinerary and was told that they intended to carry out coastal navigation; although not necessary, they asked for a compass and set squares, which I promptly delivered. The boat was equipped with all safety equipment and nautical charts; although a working GPS was installed on board, I also provided a tablet with updated Navionics charts — an extra chart plotter! On our own initiative... not for any other reason.
As regards the instrumentation, there is a windex at the masthead, a manual anemometer, a working autopilot with the compass beside it, actual speed can be checked on the GPS and on the tablet provided; finally, the windlass is not broken — it simply works that way: it is used to weigh anchor, while to drop anchor the manual procedure with the clutch on the same unit is used; on boats of this size that is normal.
Finally, having provided sheets and towels, I was also asked for beach towels, which were not included but were provided anyway at no extra charge; the check-in ended at 23:00 ......
At check-out on Sunday the clients told me they had been to Chiavari and that there had been no wind all weekend. I began carrying out the various checks and, at my request, the clients did not report any damage; however, I noticed that the bimini was irreparably torn because, although they had not used the sails, the client had rested the boom on the bimini, rubbing it against it for a full two days — it would have been enough to raise it a little and it would not have broken... I told the client, who in reply said that I had not told him that rubbing the boom against the bimini would tear it... no comment.
I therefore pointed out to him that the bimini was torn and that I did not know whether stitching would repair the damage, but in order to avoid too much argument I asked him to give me at least 50 euros for the repair, which would certainly have cost more.
The reply was that he would write a negative review, etc.,
In the end the client's friend, who had also paid the security deposit on his behalf as he was insolvent, asked me to settle the matter for 50 euros.
I am sorry that the client feels dissatisfied, but unfortunately so are we!!! In fact the owner of the boat we manage does not accept a makeshift repair!!!! he rightly asked for a new bimini without patches!!!
Unfortunately, in trying to accommodate the client and in order to maintain a good working relationship, we suffered this damage; no problem therefore if the client wants to find some pretext — the new bimini costs more than the charter he took.
Sorry if I have gone on at length... but I wanted to convey the experience as a whole.
