Paros and microcyclades august 26

Good report about tha skipper Sifis (Joseph). He knows the islands and what to do. Quiet, always very discreet. We had a very good time with him. The boat hawaii 5.0 shows much more than two years. They gave us the boat quite dirty and sticky. The gas only for the kitchen and not for the grill that was included. I had to buy glasses. The islands perfect as everytime.

Everything fairly good, apart from a few problems

The main problem was the non-functioning water maker and lack of assistance, because the base manager never answered us — we might have resolved it without having to look for a marina to refill water. Apart from that, overall the boat did not give us any significant problems.

Rhodes cat sailing

It was a beautiful trip. Four daughters, three sons in law and one baby with both grannies on-board. We had slipper Kostas who brought us to a different bay every other day. I will make my licence to captain my cat the next time myself. This were the best vacation ever, said every single one of us.

October in the Cyclades

October is still a good month for sailing in the Cyclades. Bear in mind variable weather with conditions and temperatures that can be almost summer-like but also autumnal. Surprised to see nevertheless quite a few boats, especially in the busier ports. Satisfied with the general condition of the boat though the deck hatch and porthole gaskets weren't perfectly watertight.

Good enough

The boat we took had no structural problems but was certainly very well used; the cushions at least "lived in" and a general condition that was not exactly fresh. We had a problem with the anchor and received assistance via WhatsApp even though it was difficult to talk on the phone. In the end we were charged an amount that in my view was too high for damage we caused to the tender engine. Overall we give it a pass but there is plenty of room for improvement.

Sailing trip in Greece

We were 7 people on the boat and the sailing tour was beautiful! We had some problems with the boat, but apart from the air conditioning we were able to solve them without issue! Although we mentioned several times that the air conditioning was not working, we were repeatedly reassured with the false claim that the power grid in Greece was the problem! In truth, the coolant pump was defective. Although I pointed this out precisely, I was ignored! The onboard batteries were quite weak, so the bow thruster often failed, which is not exactly ideal in some situations!

Cyclades by catamaran

Very nice holiday with many stunning bays, never crowded, thanks to a very favourable ratio of boats to number of anchorages. The meltemi direction of origin always known in advance makes it easy to choose the bays for overnight stays. Only problem: how check-in was handled. We showed up at the pontoon at 5:00 p.m. as per contract. We were told not to board in order to facilitate check-in. We waited on the pontoon with our luggage for 2 hours and 15 minutes. At 7:15 p.m. I brought the crew on board and at 7:18 p.m. the person in charge of check-in showed up; he was very annoyed because there were people on board. Moreover he was in a hurry so he did not answer questions but challenged the fact that I was asking questions, claiming it made him lose time. Very rude and absolutely inappropriate his annoyed attitude towards perfectly normal questions. The boat is very well equipped but after 6 years of charter it has many small inconveniences which overall do not affect use of the vessel or the pleasure of sailing, but can cause minor annoyances that are hard to swallow, such as a faulty chartplotter touchscreen or the windlass drum that does not release the chain when disengaged but always requires use of the electric control, or the water hose that is short and has no fitting. Still, overall, the Cyclades by catamaran make for a wonderful holiday, always without mooring or anchoring problems, with wide, spacious bays, good holding ground and few boats. A luxury that in Italy is a mirage

Stunning boat, excellent charter!

We chartered a Lagoon 46 from Athens for 15 days and did a circuit of the Cyclades. The boat was super equipped (generator, watermaker, teak deck, all electric winches, rear cameras!, etc.) and in perfect condition. Check-in and check-out procedures excellent too.

Not very satisfied, dirty boat and terrible welcome

The welcome at the base was terrible and above all the office was a caravan situated in the port (never seen anything like it in 7 years organising boat holidays). The boat was delivered really dirty so much that we had to ask for cleaning to be redone and we lost another 2 hours (cleaning that still was not satisfactory so that at the end of the week we requested the 280 euros cleaning fee paid back). The boat despite being from 2019 was not well maintained. Check-in was really slipshod and I had to struggle to get a piece of paper issued. Sheets and towels they gave us were all stained (attaching some photos) makeshift sheets (i.e. several sheet pieces overlapped to cover the whole bed)

Serious company... boat to forget

This was my 20th year of chartering, and after 10 years I decided to return for the third time to sail for two weeks in the splendid waters of the Cyclades. I won't go on about the Meltemi because it's normal that it's there, as it's normal to have gusts of 30 knots and more, etc., etc.... that's exactly why anyone who sails these waters MUST have a boat worthy of the name, sails in order, engine and equipment likewise, and not least a certain amount of experience. Fine. Departure from Athens with 15-18 knots on a broad reach. Given that I practically always sleep at anchor (if we're short of water or diesel I try to go into port around lunchtime and leave again straight away), the destination chosen for the night is a bay — splendid — on Kea. The channel of the same name (Venturi effect) increases the wind by 5-10 knots and the sea accordingly; we're now on a beam reach, I reduce the genoa a bit and take a reef in the mainsail. At the first serious gust the mainsail opens — meaning it tears from the luff corner for about two metres towards the head. I drop it and tie it up as best I can, start the engine and with patience reach our destination. I phone the company, but they tell me it will take several days. They advise me to go to Milos and in the meantime they will get another mainsail and send it to me by ferry. OK, in the evening while the rest of the family cooks, I set about sewing the tear and gluing on a patch, just enough to keep the mainsail from opening completely. The wind doesn't let up even at night and in the morning we head south (broad reach — very broad reach). At lunch we're in the bay at Kythnos and in the evening we sleep at Serifos. Departure at 9:30 and course for Sifnos, which we reach by lunchtime. In the afternoon I operate the windlass but realise it won't stop — meaning the chain comes up without being able to stop it. I jump below and hit the switch just in time to stop the anchor from wrecking the entire bow. The anchor goes down by hand and comes up without stopping, so you need three people (my wife, my daughter and her boyfriend are there, me too, so hurray! one to spare...). One at the bow, one in the cockpit shouting to the third who is near the switch when to turn it off. Anyway, I phone the company and also report that the relay has tripped (it can only be that). They say they're mortified and promise the relay will arrive together with the sail. In the evening we sleep at Milos (to the left of the ferry pier, there's always room and only two boats, while on the right it's super crowded) and in the morning we meet Nico, skipper of Andromeda, a boat — very beautiful — that takes tourists on day trips. Nico and his partner are two splendid people and they are also the reference point for repairs to charter boats that end up in Milos. The next day we sail around this splendid island and the morning after both the mainsail and the relay arrive by ferry. After the repair we set off towards the bay that separates Antiparos from Paros, where we spend the night. How nice! everything works, except that in the morning the engine won't start. Remembering a similar problem I had a few years ago in Turkey, I take a screwdriver and bridge the metal part of the screwdriver. Sparks left and right and the engine starts. From then on starting was always "screwdriver and sparks". In short, one problem after another. Stop at Naxos, Mykonos, Delos, Tinos, Gyaros, last night at Kea and then Lavrio, where we moor at the berth indicated by the company. The company manager apologises for all the problems we had, invites us to dinner and the next morning surprises us by having a Mercedes Vito with driver waiting for us, who takes us first to visit Athens and then to the airport. All free. What can I say? the anger is a thing of the past and for me it's the first time a charter company has made amends with concrete gestures. In any case the Cyclades are more beautiful than ever, the sea is splendid, the people are friendly, helpful, cheerful. Costs are ridiculous. Water costs from 50 cents to 1 euro (it's incredible, considering that last year in Croatia I never paid less than 10 euros with a maximum of 20 for 150 litres). The only marina where I stayed overnight was at Mykonos and I spent the handsome sum of 6 euros!! believe me, truly another world compared to the rest of the Mediterranean. Next year departure from Naxos for the Small Cyclades and the southern islands. I'll look for the same company... but definitely another boat.

Everything went well. Damage to the rudder was charged to us, the landlord showed us no proof of damage-free condition (photo) from the previous tenant. We were only told that we had had the opportunity to inspect the boat underwater at the marina during takeover, but did not do so. I cannot confirm that we caused the damage, but I cannot prove that the damage already existed. Therefore I can only advise everyone to do the dive, I for one will do so in future.
