The island of Lefkada, also called Lefkas is the only Greek island that can be reached from the mainland without boarding a boat since it has a bascule bridge that allows both cars to cross, and the passage of boats. The main island is surrounded by nine small islands: Meganisi, Thilia, Petalu, Kithros, Kalamos, Kastos, Madouri, Skorpidi and Skorpios. The most famous of the islands surrounding Lefkada is definitely the island of Skorpios, jumped the headlines for being the only Greek island owned by a private citizen (the Onassis family) and has become famous for the high society life.
