Tired boat and charter cost structure needs reviewing  
The holiday was impacted by a no-longer-fresh boat with systems problems that affected navigation and the crew's everyday comfort. The part I find myself noting more and more often is that the price quoted on the website does not reflect the final cost of the holiday. Extras for sheets and towels and cleaning impact by more than 20% on the cost of the holiday, and even more doubts are raised by the charter's request to pay these extras only in cash when by law you can even pay for a coffee with a credit card. At the end of the holiday everything closed for the best without arguments or escalation over quibbles or breakages, but doubts remain.

Terrible experience  
We had a terrible experience with the charter. Where do I start.. First, on arrival they told us that according to the contract we had to be in the marina by Friday before 4 p.m., which cuts an entire afternoon and night from the trip. We did not know that before making the reservation. Second, the bilge was full of water the whole trip — the bilge pump did not work properly so I had to live with a flooded floor for a week Third, the black water tank was not emptied before delivery of the boat nor was the situation communicated or how to perform the emptying. The smell inside the vessel was unbearable. Not to mention the bathroom had black mould. Fourth, apparently the VHF did not work (or nobody answered us) Fifth, as the boat is in a shallow area of the marina where there are rocks (which is shallow in itself), the charter requires us to request assistance before mooring. This assistance is not 24 hours and even though I notified them in advance of my arrival, it was not provided in sufficient time, putting the vessel at risk of collision with the seabed. Sixth, the engine could not be run above 2000 rpm for more than 1 hour because it gave an overheating alert. In a risky situation this can be dangerous as it may not allow you to put the vessel to safety. Seventh, the outboard motor (paid extra) was unreliable — on more than one occasion it left me stranded in the middle of an estuary and starting it became very difficult. Eighth, when communicating all these issues to the charter at return, base manager Andrea started telling us that all these problems were our fault for not knowing how to use the vessel and for not having requested the contract before paying. Instead of accepting that the vessel and check-in process have deficiencies, he started reproaching us for not returning on Friday on time and that because he was being generous he was not overcharging us — in short, blaming the customers, something unusual and even more so given the amount paid for the charter. Clearly this charter lacks understanding of how to properly handle dissatisfied customers. Ninth (unrelated to the charter): the marina is in an extremely inconvenient location if you don't have a vehicle — the only supermarket within walking distance charges exorbitant prices for a normal week's shopping. To be honest it was a week we did not enjoy and could not relax or have peace of mind. It was very much the opposite of a great previous experience we booked through Marenauta in Croatia with an older vessel.

The engine was not in good condition  
From the start of the charter, at 1800 rpm, the engine (30 HP Volvo) continuously emitted white smoke that gave us no peace of mind. When we occasionally went up to 2000 rpm the amount of smoke was truly worrying. After checking levels and confirming the propeller was clear, we consulted the base manager who told us there was no problem with the engine. We could only do 4 kts under engine when 30 HP on a 36-footer should easily do 6 kts. At that speed transfers took forever and out of caution and fear of being left without engine power, we gave up going to Bonifacio. As other details on the boat, we missed a basic cleaning pack, a lighter for the galley and a bottle opener. Entry and exit from Marina dell'Isola is very tricky due to lack of depth. We do not recommend the experience.

DREAM HOLIDAY  
We left Pula for a 2-week sail to the Kornati islands. The charter company was very efficient, we requested an early check-in and by 12:30 we were already setting sail. Very clean boat, like new (it was a Dufour 41 from 2025). Splendid holiday. Marenauta is always a certainty, both for boats and for assistance. This year we also had a holiday in the Aeolian Islands and on that occasion too they assisted us step by step. I am now on my fifth charter with Marenauta and we have never had a single problem. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
