A week on a Nautitech 40 Open from Rogoznica  
Arrived in Split, took a taxi to the marina. Early check-in was hassle-free and the handover was completed quickly. A gennaker ordered in advance was unfortunately not available. Nautitech 40 Open – condition and experience report (very extensive—as I am planning to buy such a cat) Interior fit-out Cabins The gap dimensions of the entrance doors to the cabins are insufficient. As a result the doors scrape and in part cannot be closed properly. The furniture is fitted with cup hinges and is basically adjustable. However the fasteners are undersized, the covers sit loosely and operability is limited. The floor hatches are made of plywood, but the edges are neither rounded nor sealed. This is likely to lead to chipped corners and possible water damage in the medium term. The mattresses are of poor quality. In addition the bed edges are sharp. Combined with the high bed height, getting in and out is uncomfortable. Galley A fiddle rail is missing. This is required both to secure items against sliding and for drainage of rinse water. Positively worth noting is the option to use seawater through the sink. The two taps however already feel loose and of poor quality. There is no functional lighting whatsoever in the cooker and sink area. A fold-out extension of the work surface at the sink would be sensible. Salon and cockpit The ceiling lining is poorly finished and partly loose. The electrical cover on the salon table is poorly executed (no snaps, sharp edges, sloppy workmanship). The steps down into the hulls are made of solid wood but already show clear signs of wear ("greasy" edges) that are likely to worsen with further use. The cooker already shows significant wear (rust on hinges, missing clips for the grill rack). Heads In the guest hull the head is poorly designed: there is no shower partition, and usability of the sink is severely limited by the mirror above it. In the three-cabin version the master head is better organised, but the sink is also too small. On a comparison boat ("Hui Hui") a washing machine could even be integrated at this location. Further points (interior & deck) The locks on the overhead hatches in the salon are already worn. A well-thought-out shading solution is essential. The cockpit cushions have a high-quality cover fabric, but the foam used seems unsuitable for seating comfort. The side cockpit covers ("cake stall") are rollable but probably difficult for one person alone to operate. A solution with a sewn-in wooden strip in the hem could help here. The gas installation should be rated critically: there is a noticeable gas smell in the gas locker. For long passages sufficient fittings and spare parts should also be carried. While sailing water constantly leaked from the roof, presumably due to leaks; solar panels had been removed. The grill on port works well but always requires a separate gas cylinder. A fixed gas line would be sensible here. The liferaft is positioned centrally in the cockpit and is accessible even after a capsize. For single-handers it might however be oversized. Sail equipment The fittings from Harken and Lewmar are adequately dimensioned, as are the Lewmar winches fitted. The control button of the electric winch is however poorly designed and should be reviewed. The self-tacking jib is not optimally adjusted and should be re-measured by a sailmaker. The sheet lead is also notably poor especially on the wind—a forward rerouting could be sensible. The mainsail is in good condition, but a boom downhaul is missing. Proper retrofitting should be considered. The leads for reefing lines and outhaul are insufficient. An additional lead to the cockpit electric winch would be sensible. The positioning of the halyard cleats on the mast could be improved. Additional handholds between the helm (starboard) and mast would be desirable. Systems – fresh water No problems could be identified. Dinghy Handling the dinghy via the davits is well resolved. In the raised position the boat should however be secured more seaworthy—additional cleats or clamps would be sensible here. Ours was a Highfield 310 with 10 HP. Systems (general) Without solar panels the battery capacity is exhausted after one night already. A well-thought-out solar concept is essential. Walk-on modules are expensive; alternative solutions (e.g. carrier above the dinghy) seem sensible. The cooling concept includes a freezer in the starboard hull (very awkward opener—a different latch should be fitted here) as well as one fridge each in the galley and cockpit. The heating was not functional. The wind meter showed no function. The B&G autopilot occasionally fails and should be urgently checked. The waste water tank level indicators do not work. The B&G plotters cannot be fully switched off, consume unnecessary power and overheat in sunshine. The radar is non-functional. The radio has interference, presumably due to poor installation. At the aft cleats (port and starboard) massive gelcoat damage was found, indicating overload. Rework is needed here. In the forward areas of the hulls (sail load areas) ladders are missing. There are no power outlets whatsoever in the galley. The anchor windlass control panel at the helm (starboard) is poorly positioned and should be mounted higher. The anchor fitted was considered too small but worked in testing. The swivel with chain hook proved unsuitable. The 50 HP engines are powerful. However the engine covers are apparently not fully watertight, allowing water ingress and corrosion (Bowden cable already seized). Electric engine control could in principle be supplemented with a remote control. The ZF throttle levers are heavily corroded. All the minor defects did not spoil a lovely holiday, nevertheless worth noting as the boat is only two years old.

Organization and boat  
The organization for documents, payments, instructions on how to do things were excellent! The boat was delivered on time. The boat, despite being only a few years old, was a bit shabby aesthetically on the interior and not entirely well cleaned. A lot of disorder in the lockers, worn halyards and a very poorly adjusted mast. There was no possibility of modifying the adjustments as the halyards and backstay were spliced onto the stoppers and therefore immovable. Engine in working order.
